Who Am I Really?

One of the terms we often hear when we talk about empowerment is authenticity. What is that? What does it mean to be authentic? At first glance I believe it means to be genuine – to be true to yourself – to be real. But do we really know how to do that? How do we know our True Self?

At the very least, being genuine entails saying what we mean and meaning what we say: We are true to our own values and beliefs and live according to the rules we deem to be correct… for us anyway.

But what is ‘real’? Who is our true self? Do we even think about that? Can we really KNOW who that is?

For many years I’ve done my best to be genuine and I thought that also made me authentic, but I’ve recently had reason to  ponder what that means. The reason for my musing is a book I’ve been reading by Esther and Gerry Hicks titled The Astonishing Power of Emotions: Let Your Feelings Be Your Guide. This is one of the Teachings of Abraham books and it provides a very different perspective about who we are.

It’s not easy to summarize what Abraham tells us, but briefly, they explain that we not only have our physical being, which we’re aware of with our five senses, but a part of us that is non-physical. That’s not news for many of us today, but it’s the way the non-physical  part of us is explained that I found of utmost interest.

More and more people are accepting the fact that, at the very basic level, our physical self is made up of energy – in fact, everything is energy. Again, not really news if you’ve watched What the Bleep or similar movies. It’s also not a far stretch to accept that we have another part of us. That, too, is not particularly new.

The term Abraham uses for our non-physical self is Inner Being and the way they explain it IS new… at least to me.

We live in a dualistic world where we are bombarded with experiences of every type. As  result of these experiences, we learn what we don’t want and, as a result, by a process of elimination, what we DO want. Abraham calls these ‘wants’ Rockets of Desire and, as soon as we launch one, our Inner Being responds by embracing our ‘want’ on a vibrational level.

This means that our Inner Being is already everything that we’ve ever wanted to be and holds every thing we’ve ever wanted to have in what Abraham calls our Vibrational Escrow. It’s all there waiting for us to claim it, whether it’s a ‘thing’, a circumstance, or a quality.

THAT’S what it means to have, do, or be anything that we desire!

This is our authentic self – the Self that has everything and is everything we’ve ever dreamt of having or being. All we have to do is allow it, claim it, and it’s ours! Being our Inner Being is being authentic. Now that’s empowerment! That's freedom!

Of course, we all have the same challenge: How do we claim what is technically already ours.. at least on a vibrational level?

Well, it’s a matter of aligning our energy using our emotions as a guide. At any particular time, are we rowing upstream against the current (when we’re feeling negative emotions), or downstream (when we’re feeling positive emotions)? That’s the crucial question and one that I’ll address is another article.
