Empowerment means 'to invest with power or
authority'. When we self-empower, it means that we give power to the
self; we enable our self. Thus, self-empowerment is the power of the
individual. By empowering ourselves, we become experts about what we
need to take care of our self in every are of our life. We take control
and don't expect others to make decisions for us.
Before we can begin to live an empowered
life, we need to become aware of areas where we feel powerless, areas
where we give our power away to others, whether that's another
individual, a group, or an institution to name a few. Some areas you may
need to look at closely are:
-
Relationships with family, friends, or
co-workers
-
Professionals such as physicians,
therapists, lawyers, financial advisors, etc.
-
Organizations such as the police or
the military
-
Spiritual leaders
-
Pleasures such as eating, smoking,
drinking, etc.
There are many reasons why we give away
our power. Often we've inherited beliefs from our family that we aren't
even aware of which create real challenges for us. It's therefore
advisable to examine every area of your life to determine where you
should focus your attention.
We usually know what isn't working and
that's obviously the best place to begin! And one of the best tools for
addressing these issues is shown below...
